Competitions
As a club we take part in many competitions throughout the year. Competitions may be set at District, County or National level with eliminators at each stage through to the finals. The main competitions include:
Rally
By far the biggest competition in the Young Farmers competition calendar. Competitions range from Stock Judging, Flower arranging and Cookery to Crafts, Radio shows, and dressing up! Cledales hold their rally in April/May, with the Yorkshire Rally in June. Further rounds are then held by Northern Area, and then National at either Competitions day or at the Royal Show.
Public Speaking
Junior Public Speaking, Braintrust, Senior Debating, After Dinner Speaking are all competitions in Public Speaking. District eliminators are held in October, with successful teams going through to the Yorkshire round in December. Northern Area weekend are then in March and if successful, the national finals are in the following October.
Sports
Similar structure of elimination to Public Speaking. Sports are chosen on a yearly basis. Due to insurance implications only those 16 and over can take part in most sports, but there are occasionally Junior sports completitions as well.
Raft Race
Anyone 18 and over can take part in the district raft race in July. Clubs must build a raft and then sail it down the river Swale in various heats to try to reach the final to become the champions! |
